About

A researcher who builds systems.

I started in the atomic-scale physics of disease, and now build the systems that carry research into the world.

Joe Bones

J. Bones — Ngunnawal, Australia

I'm a researcher who builds. My background is computational biophysics — using atomic-scale simulation to work out how mutations in immune-system proteins cause disease. That work — published under my full name, Josiah Bones — appears in Nature and Science Advances, on the TLR7 and DECTIN-1 systems behind conditions like lupus.

Partway through my PhD I paused to build SelfTherapy — a full-stack, AI-integrated mental-health platform across web, iOS and Android. It came from seeing a clear gap: the distance between what people need and what they can actually reach when traditional therapy isn't an option.

As co-founder and CTO I architected the whole Django/Flutter system with layered safety governance, and took a Graduate Diploma in Counselling to do it properly. It was later adapted for a military context and is under research-trial consideration.

These days I'm back on the PhD, building EndPoint — the same systems discipline turned back onto the research that started it all.

Skills

From atoms to applications.

01

Research, Data & Science

Computational analysis, statistical modelling and high-performance simulation — atomic-scale molecular dynamics, structural biology, and large-scale data.

02

Systems & Backend

Django/DRF backends — custom middleware, Firebase auth, complex model structures, and cloud deployment on Cloudflare.

03

Applications & Mobile

Flutter applications across web, iOS and Android with considered UX — including chat experiences that help users identify emotions, thoughts and sensations in real time.

04

AI & Safety Governance

Multi-layered AI agent architectures with database interfacing and safety gates designed for high-stakes mental-health and operational contexts.
